Top EightFilms of 2005

Jesse and I decided last night, after realizing I have watched about 520 movies in the past two years, that I need to do a top ten of 2005, except I could only think of eight films that were above a 85% rating. Here they are in no particular order:

Me, You and Everyone We Know
Image hosting by Photobucket
A sweet, funny film that totally won me over. ))<>((

Grizzly Man
Image hosting by Photobucket
Another hit from Werner Herzog. I am a fan of his work. This movie was especially disturbing, even without Klaus Kinski.

A History of Violence
Image hosting by Photobucket
Maria Bello and Viggo Mortensen shine in this dark film about secrets.

The Baxter
Image hosting by Photobucket
A sweet and funny romantic comedy. Perfect for when you are in the mood for something like that.

Capote
Image hosting by Photobucket
Philip Seymour Hoffman shines as Truman Capote. A stellar performance - I think he should win an Oscar for this one.

Steven Tobolowsky's Birthday Party
Image hosting by Photobucket
This movie is like going to a great dinner party.

I, Curmudgeon
This movie is like sitting around with a group of the most depressed, yet hilarious, people around.

Mad Hot Ballroom

Just fantastic!

I also have a lot of 2005 movies on my netflix queue that I have yet to watch - but, honestly, it was really hard to even come up with these. Come on filmmakers - wow me!

Toby came over last weekend to help with the planning of the weekend in Las Vegas. Here he is telling us that he would definitely see Wayne Newton over Kenny Rogers any day of the week.

Mama's Don't Let Your Babies....

Grow up to be cowboys. Willie Nelson rocked and rolled the Fillmore last night with a 2+ hour performance. I don't think I have seen a better concert. He played all the hits and a few new songs as well. He looked great, and sounded better.

He is playing for the next three nights at the Fillmore and it is not yet sold out. If you have the money to spare I would definitely recommend seeing this legend.

Mrs. Boring-way

I watched Mrs. Dalloway last night, starring Vanessa Redgrave. While I usually LOVE period pieces (Jeeves and Wooster, Pride and Prejudice [starring Colin Firth], etc) this was just too dull. There was a bit about shell-shock that didn't fit in. I don't know but after this, I am a little scared of any other adaptations of Virginia Woolf's writings.

Gay Cowboy Love

Brokeback Mountain.

Majestic in it cinematography and gorgeous with its views of Heath Ledger. I truly enjoyed this film. I would recommend it to anyone. But I do take some issue with it. I felt the story could have been a little tighter. But I guess like life, you don't really know everything that is going on. I think the acting was above-average and the romance between the two men was definitely hot and pretty realistic.

Hustle... no

I finally watched, after much anticipation, Hustle and Flow. I only wish I hadn't wasted so much time anticipating this flop. While Terrence Howard was wonderful, as always, and easy on the eyes - the rest of the movie was cliched, tacky and poorly acted. I have come to the conclusion that Taryn Manning ruins every film she is in. Directors, PLEASE STOP HIRING HER! The sad storyline was poorly written with lirrle or no heart. The scenes dragged on longer than was necessary. At one point a new guy comes in to work at the studio, no real introduction is made as to who he is (I suspect he is modeled after the writer) and he just fits right in with no explanation - but we end up having to sit through the making of what ends up feeling like 20 songs.

Trash, junk, poo. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I am sorry it was made and so much effort was wasted promoting this pile. And I am suprised at the reviews after watching it.

Can we please get over the pimp thing, please?

20% (that 20% goes only to Terrence Howard who should have never agreed to be in the movie).

I really didn't like it. If you want to watch a good movie about music and poverty, watch The Harder They Come.

Vegetarianism

In the spirit of Celebrity Fit Club my boyfriend and I are going vegetarian and healthy for one month. Whoever consumes meat first will have to buy the other dinner and give them $50. If we both make it through the challenge (which is mostly not eating meat for one month) we will be having a dinner party featuring all the major creatures for eating: crab, fish, cow, pig, chicken.

Honestly, I love eating meat so much that my vegetarian pad thai made me sick today.

I just suddenly realized while typing the above that I will not be able to eat bacon for 30 days.

What have I gotten myself into...?

Carley's Birthday

This year for Carley's birthday we went to first Senor Peppars for dinner. Then we made our way over to the greatest bar there ever was, Bow Bow Cocktail Lounge in Chinatown. It was awesome. I think. I blacked out after singing 'We've only just begun' by the Carpenters.

This is Candy. Your bartender for the evening. She is the reason for the blackout. As Nicole noticed, she turned the sexy up to 11 on Saturday.

This Is Spinal Tap

I watched this movie for like the 1,000th time last night and enjoyed it all the same. Why can't people make movies like this anymore.

I give this on an 11.

Project Runway

Once again they remove the wrong designer. I hate to sound mean but the middle aged lady has got to go. Her clothes aren't even pretty, even when they are copied from a pretty dress.

Santino should also go, woof! His stuff all looks the same with too many embellishments that aren't even cool or interesting. If I was forced to be at a party with him and his 5" stilletto heels (WTF!?!?!?!!!) I would trip him. And then laugh at him.

And Dirty Diana. Oh, Dirty Diana. Ask Jesse for more info on her.

I wish Tim Gunn was a judge, he seems like the best one.

New Years Eve 2005

This New Years was one of the best.

The day started at Sam and Lucy's playing poker and dominos (and drinking). I dominated the dominos but failed at the poker.

Then we went to Emmy's Spaghetti Shack for some Rock'n'Roll Bingo and dinner (and drinking).

Then we motored over to the Edinburgh Castle for more boozing
